Day 6

Day 6

No tarjeta...no dinero. So both Eric and I tried, with no success to withdrawal money from the only ATM in the "city". Luckily, the bank was open and he could go inside with his passport to get $$. Everything pura vida.

Jackson and Eric got up super early to catch some waves. Eric got some good footage of JJ this time.

This morning while the guys went to surf, Gracie and I took a walk around the neighborhood to see what we could find. We saw more howler monkeys, lots of flower and butterflies feeding on them and met some neighbors, FROM Encinitas no less!!! Come to find out we almost had rented their house here in this neighborhood, but they had put it on the market and we didn't want to risk not having a place. They were super friendly.

We went to this "awesome" beach that some folks from Maine told us about yesterday. It was down this unmarked dirt road about 15 minutes south of here. Well as a San Diegan, I should of known better than to take beach recommendations from someone from Maine...j/k. It was pretty, but sadly full of trash! I have taken up my sister Suzanne's tradition of bringing a trash bag with me and collecting a bag full at each beach. I collected probably 10 plastic shoe soles, 20 plastic bottle caps, lighters and endless bits and pieces of rubbish. Eric thinks it was a lost cause (and it kinda felt like it) but still made me feel like I did something to help out the fishies and turtles of our ocean.

The one really cool thing about this beach was that at the very north end there was a beautiful waterfall that the kids and I climbed up. That beauty made me forget the mess I just witnessed.

The kids loved getting tumbled around in the big waves again. It has been a running joke here with Gracie. Before each outing, she claims, "I am NOT going in the water, I do not want to go the beach." Without fail she is the last to get out of the waves, covered in sand and sea water.

Every evening sometime between 4:30-5:15, like clockworks, a large flock of orange footed parakeets swoop down near our pool overlooking the ocean, almost like their know they are showing off their colors for us. It is spectacular. One of these days I will try to get a video.
