Drove to Playa Guiones for a surfing day. Packed our lunch and beach stuff for an all day trip. It was a pretty easy day at the beach, lots of sunscreen (but never enough), snacking and playing in the waves. It was a pretty calm day...until we got home. We could see some dark clouds behind us, but nothing more than normal. Kids swam for a bit in the pool, made a Passionfruit Paradise drink. THEN, right after showers, Gracie and I were in the back bedroom and out of nowhere at HUGE thunder and lighting happened right outside the window. It hit about 100 yards out the window, we could feel the electricity pulse through our bodies. Gracie had climbed, like a monkey in a jungle gym, right to the top of my head. Rain came pouring down, from every direction and found every hole, crack and open window in the house. In an instant we had no light, water everywhere and all the bugs of Costa Rica trying to hide in our house. Luckily, the owners of the house must experience this often, as they had candles and lots of flashlights ready for us. Dinner by candlelight for us.
Lots of first last night-
-First scorpion sighting in the house!! (Found by Jackson)
-First movie (so glad for a fully charged laptop)
-First snake visitor just outside our bedroom door
Day 4
Decided to drive up to Playa Juanillo today to try to snorkel. Our driver on the first day said it is the place to go to see turquoise blue water and beautiful fish. It was about an hours drive up dirt roads, through small towns and drove through rivers that did not have bridges. It was an adventure. We arrived at the beach, to find the same big waves we had our our local beaches. We played in the waves, got tumbled like a shoe in a dryer and finally went out snorkeling. Although it was kind of rough, we saw some pretty cool fish and Jackson even saw an octopus. We are still getting used to what to pack and I forgot the underwater camera, of course!
On the way home we stopped back in Playa Guiones to check out the camp the kids will attend in a few weeks. It is super cute and looks like fun, it is Gracie-approved!
Found a local spot to watch the Portugal v Poland game, until the rain started. When it starts raining or storming, cable goes out and often power too. Oh well- pura vida.
